There is nothing to explore in Bruckner,,Just repetitive notes without a pastorial background,,,Thats what I like about Mahler,,Always full of color in the ALPS and the meadows.....

My and Romy's posts above from a few months ago indicated this would happen so there shouldn't be any surprise. Again, Eschenbach excels mainly in choral works for some reason. Many US orchestras have far more difficulty with Bruckner than with Mahle...

Gould was such a great talker! I love listening to him on just about any subject. But don't let this stop you from digging into it, if you want to "fix" it.LBJ, there are bound to be periods when, and plenty of varying reasons why, one just is not ...

A few weeks back I bought a CD of Hans Vonk lead Saint Louis Symphony with Bruckner 4. It was not the best Bruckner 4 that I heard – the Saint Louis is not the orchestra that does the best Bruckner but it was a very nice performance, surprisingly...

“Reviewers” speak confidently about the various parts of
cited musical compositions, and in many cases I believe they hear what they say
they do. I think it is not only listening experience that bears this fruit, but
it might also be a gift, a...

Well, of course it should say "Aimez-Vous Brahms?" (the novel by Françoise Sagan), or also known as: " Lieben Sie Brahms?"Actually my answer to this to be honest is: No, I don't. Brahms, other then his Violin Concerto has so far not managed to captur...

Yes, I have a few acquaintances who have damned the vinous pearls that I've cast before them with the very faintest of praise. One said that a 1990 Montrachet Ramonet was "as good as Cloudy Bay". Actually, although the Mouton was pretty special, alon...

[quote user="Lbjefferies7"] In my new room, I can't find the patience to listen to Bruckner. I can now listen to concertos and pieces with content in the tone and space, but if the music takes too long to get into it, I become impatient, then feel l...

This thread is not about tape but rather about my feeling that High-Resolution is not “there” yet. It is unquestionable that tape is able to get great sonic result but how obtainable the tapes are? Moreover how obtainable the tapes of the recordings ...

The whole notion of the de Charlus’ quest I find to be very interesting. Charlus feels that only use horn topology and compression drivers is able to deliver “superior” audio result, at least it was his experience. I do not feel that horn topolog...

A few years ago, hearing Romy's amazing FM recordings, the computer seemed a necessity. So now it is here, and it blesses and seduces.Jumping around playlists is sometimes a lot of fun. Quick comparisons and sudden thrills, and newness. Along with...

Well, the short trip to Paris was rather Amy’s idea than mine and I think she is cooling out a bit to this adventure. I guess girls do have some fantasies about Paris. I do not. To me the unlimited European experience is south Germany, Prague or Ital...

I am not laughing. Just the other day I had the upper bass a little extra prominent, and midrange was gently tapering off into the highs. Some would say it was rolled off and flat, but when I played two Mahler 1's and the 9th, I enjoyed him like ne...

It is hard to say what happened to them. Earlier this year we heard them in Carnegie Hall with Bruckner 5 and they demonstrated pretty much the same play. It is kind of interesting as they do have an amassing class of playing. Not by reputation but b...

I appreciate that Guy made the FM recording available. If you listen the Guy’s files then make sure that you combine the files before listening as to interrupt Bruckner movements is sacrilegious. The whole Bruckner presentation come as one longer med...

Attended today Bruckner 4 with Oslo Philarmonic under Petrenko. Petrenko for sure looks great but in Tchikovsky kind of level, to conduct Brucker it is a bit too early for him. Amy said that everyone need to start sometimes, perhaps she is right but ...

So I bought the Bruckner symphony collection by the Bavarian Radio (Bayerische Rundfunk) Orchestra. It was the least expensive set offered by HDTracks and I thought it would be interesting to hear how different conductors approach Bruckner. It has Ma...

Amy the Kitten is amazing. Next week, on Feb 12 we have our anniversary. Amy informed me that I need to have the rest of the week after 12 off and that she booked a secret anniversary trip for us. I was guessing what it might be and a Vermont sky res...

My Grandma died. She was in her 90s…
The funeral was next morning. I learned about Grandma in the beginning of the day but a lot of little pathetic errands did not allow me to leave for Philadelphia right the way, not to mention that there was...

Amir. for me. regardless of what I've started out to do in audio, I have been forced to compromise along the way. I am sharing my speaker/amp compromises in this thread. My "second system" is a radio (or computer) and headphones (or "desk speakers")....

The 3rd movement of 8th of cause is very much quintessential
Bruckner and from my colored perspective probably then best adagio ever composed.
Still might it be the first thing, the "easy Bruckner" that new
people might need?
With the guy ...

It is hard to stress how much “right tone” an orchestra need to play the adagio from Bruckner 7. It might be a good orchestra but it might still be “the-Adagio-incompatible” and I have seen very few of them that are compatible.
I am playing now a v...

Somebody in this there warned me that the fiberglass pipe wall finishing that I employed on the wall with my midbass horn, behind my listening location might be environmentally not healthy. I have very high sensitivity to fiberglass and one singl...

[quote user="Romy the Cat"]A few days back Simon

a huge fun of Simon Rattle and the music was garbage (Mahler 7). We were

I had today a fantastic listening experience and made today a stunning discovery.
